DG-Vitruvio Moissanite: more fire than diamond, more sparkle than the T73
Brilliance 86 · Fire 97 · Scintillation 98 · in our census, where the T73 scores 86 · 97 · 80 in moissanite
Our most finely divided round: the T-series plan with its girdle cut into a band of small facets. In moissanite it keeps the T73's light and fire and outscores it on sparkle.
Rendered in our 3D Gemstone Simulator from the DG-Vitruvio model, 1.00 ct, studio light.
DG-Vitruvio Moissanite
DG-Vitruvio keeps the crown and pavilion of the T-series round, with a 40.75° pavilion and a depth of 61.9%, and puts all its extra work into the girdle, which becomes a band of many small facets.
In moissanite the census reads almost exactly like the T73: Brilliance 86 against 86, Fire 97 against 97, Tilt 94 against 94. Only scintillation moves, because our score counts facets and the girdle adds a great many.
Its cons come from the diamond side. The angles are diamond's, and the same model in diamond returns more light and leaks less.
Is moissanite a good choice for DG-Vitruvio? Pros and cons
Compared with the T73 Round Brilliant in moissanite and with the DG-Vitruvio in diamond.
A difference counts from 3 points (Brilliance, Fire, Tilt, Leakage), 5 (Scintillation,
Symmetry), 2 (Spread) or 5% (weight); Tilt counts as a pro only for a stone within
5 points of the brilliance it is compared with. How we measure.

it reaches further, hatched where it falls short. Each pro and con is explained, with pictures, below.

Fire 97 against 79 for the DG-Vitruvio in diamond: 18 points higher
Swap diamond for moissanite in the renders and nothing else changes; fire climbs from 79 to 97. That is dispersion, 0.104 against 0.044. The girdle band plays no part we can measure: the plain T73 scores 97 in this stone.

Look at the coloured flashes: those are fire. Same light, same size, same face-up angle; rendered by our 3D Gemstone Simulator from each cut's own model.
Scintillation 98 against 80 for the T73 Round Brilliant in moissanite: 18 points higher
Our scintillation score rises with the number of facets and flattens near the top, so DG-Vitruvio reaches 98, level with DG-Miliano. Whether a finely cut girdle reads as extra sparkle to the eye is not something we compute.
Scintillation follows the number of facets: more facets, more and smaller flashes as the stone moves. Count the facets in each crown. Drawn from each cut's own model.
Brilliance 86 against 93 for the DG-Vitruvio in diamond: 7 points lower
These are the classic diamond proportions. Moissanite bends light more sharply, and with these angles a little more of it leaves away from the eye. In diamond the same model returns 93.

DG-Vitruvio in diamond · Brilliance 93
Red, green and blue = light returning to the eye; grey = light leaving through the pavilion. This is the head-on view; the Brilliance score averages a wider cone of light, so the score can differ from what one picture shows.
Leakage 7 against 2 for the DG-Vitruvio in diamond: 5 points higher
In moissanite 7% of the light in our census goes out through the pavilion; in diamond the same model loses 2%.

10° · 7% leak

30° · 15% leak
Each frame is the Light Return map with the stone tilted away from you by the angle shown; grey is light leaving through the pavilion. The share under each frame is that picture's own.
What helps: Steepening is not the fix: at 40.75° the pavilion already clears moissanite's 39.5° guide minimum. DG-M5 leaks 1% and DG-Anteros 3%.
DG-Vitruvio suits a round moissanite where sparkle comes first and the T73's light is enough. It was made for renders and settings where the outline should read as smooth as the stone is bright.
For more light, DG-M5 Moissanite. For the same sparkle score from a pavilion drawn for moissanite, DG-Miliano Moissanite, which matches it on light too.
At the wheel, the girdle band is a great deal of extra work for a gain that only our scintillation score sees.
DG-Vitruvio Moissanite: questions
Is DG-Vitruvio good for moissanite?
It equals the T73 in moissanite on light (86) and fire (97), and scores 98 for scintillation against 80.
DG-Vitruvio or T73 for a moissanite?
They score the same for light, fire and tilt here. DG-Vitruvio sparkles more in our census, 98 against 80; the T73 has far fewer facets to cut.
Does DG-Vitruvio leak light in moissanite?
7% in our census, the same as the T73, against 2% for DG-Vitruvio in diamond.
What does a 6.5 mm DG-Vitruvio moissanite weigh?
0.93 ct, and 1.02 ct for the diamond version.
