DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows Amethyst: the T73's light within a point, a quarter lighter than diamond
Brilliance 71 · Fire 33 · Scintillation 83 · in our census, where the T73 scores 72 · 36 · 80 in amethyst
The T73 with eight thin facets added to the pavilion, along the ridges between the lower girdle halves. In quartz it returns about the T73's light, but the broken hearts it was drawn to show in diamond do not form.
Rendered in our 3D Gemstone Simulator from the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows model, 1.00 ct, studio light.
DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows Amethyst
It keeps the T73's 53.0% table, 34.5° crown and 40.75° pavilion mains, which clear amethyst's guide minimum of 40.4° by less than half a degree, and adds a narrow crack facet on each ridge where two lower girdle halves meet: 81 facets in all.
Those crack facets were placed for diamond, where a simulated Hearts and Arrows viewer shows them splitting each heart down its middle. In amethyst the hearts do not form, so this page leaves them out. Against the T73 it is close on every light figure: Brilliance 71 to 72, Fire 33 to 36, leakage 29% to 28%. Its head-on Light Return map is a little less grey than the T73's, while the census, averaging a wider cone of light, counts a point more leakage. Scintillation reads 83 to the round's 80, too small a gap for us to count as a gain. Against diamond the gaps are larger, and they make up the four cons; the one pro is weight.
Is DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows a good cut for amethyst? Pros and cons
Compared with the T73 Round Brilliant in amethyst and with the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond.
A difference counts from 3 points (Brilliance, Fire, Tilt, Leakage), 5 (Scintillation,
Symmetry), 4% (face-up size per carat) or 5% (weight); Tilt counts as a pro only for a stone within
5 points of the brilliance it is compared with. How we measure.

Face-up light census, a different measure from the Cut Grading Tool; Spread and Shape-norm above 100 sit on the ring. Spread is the census's estimate from depth alone; the face-up size in the pros and cons is measured from each model's outline.
Fire 33 against 78 for the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond: 45 points lower
In quartz the same facets fall from 78 to 33. Amethyst's dispersion is 0.013 against diamond's 0.044, but its index is lower too, and the census swaps both at once. The amethyst render shows fewer coloured flashes than the diamond one.

DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond · Fire 78
Look at the coloured flashes: those are fire. Same light, same size, same face-up angle; rendered by our 3D Gemstone Simulator from each cut's own model.
What helps: The most fire among amethyst cuts within ten points of the T73's light comes from DG-Anteros Amethyst, 54, which also returns more light, 82.
Leakage 29 against 2 for the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond: 27 points higher
In amethyst 29% of the light escapes through the pavilion; the diamond version loses 2%. The amethyst strip is about an eighth grey head-on, over a third at 10° and over two fifths by 30°; the diamond's stays under a seventh in every frame.

Each frame is the Light Return map with the stone tilted away from you by the angle shown; grey is light leaving through the pavilion. The share under each frame is that picture's own.
What helps: We have measured no steeper version of this cut, so we promise none. DG-M5 Amethyst leaks 15%, the least in this stone.
Brilliance 71 against 94 for the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond: 23 points lower
Diamond returns 94 in this cut, amethyst 71, a point under the T73's 72. In the amethyst map grey wedges ring the rim; the diamond map is almost free of grey.

DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond · Brilliance 94
Red, green and blue = light returning to the eye; grey = light leaving through the pavilion. This is the head-on view; the Brilliance score averages a wider cone of light, so the score can differ from what one picture shows.
What helps:DG-M5 Amethyst returns 85 with no grey in its head-on map.
Tilt 82 against 92 for the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond: 10 points lower
Tipped by 20°, the amethyst holds 82 of its face-up light, the diamond version 92. Against the T73's 80 in quartz, the crack facets cost it nothing here.

Tilt is how much of its own face-up light a stone keeps when tilted. Each frame is the Light Return map with the stone tilted away from you by the angle shown; grey is light leaving through the pavilion. The share under each frame is that picture's own.
What helps: Among the cuts within ten points of the T73's light, the T105 Round Brilliant Amethyst holds the most when tipped, 87, from less light face-up, 65.
Choose it in amethyst if you want this design in quartz: it gives the T73's light, within a point, and no gain over the round large enough for us to count. Do not choose it for the hearts: in quartz our simulated viewer shows none to break.
On light, as good as the T73 it is built on, within a point: Brilliance 71 against 72. It returns far less than the same cut in diamond, which reaches 94 and leaks 2%.
Does a broken hearts and arrows amethyst show hearts?
No. In our simulated viewer the hearts form only in diamond.
DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows or the T73 for amethyst?
On light they are within a point and the T73 has a little more fire (36 against 33); this cut reads 83 to 80 for Scintillation and holds 82 when tipped to the T73's 80, gaps too small for us to call gains.
What does a 6.5 mm DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows amethyst weigh?
0.76 ct; in diamond the same width weighs 1.01 ct.
