The Diamond Dossier is a shorter GIA report for loose natural diamonds of 0.15 to 1.99 carats, D to Z. It gives the four Cs and a proportion diagram, but no clarity plot.
In more detail
Instead of a plot, it lists in words up to four of the most significant clarity characteristics. GIA laser-inscribes the report number on the girdle of every Dossier stone. GIA doesn't issue it for synthetics, simulants, mounted stones, HPHT-processed or color-treated stones, or unstable treatments. Since January 2023 the Dossier has been digital only.
On a grading report
A document that calls itself a GIA Dossier but shows a plotted diagram is not a real Dossier.

- Diamond grading report: A diamond grading report is an independent lab's record of what a stone is and how it grades. It is true for the day the lab examined the stone.
- Clarity plot: The clarity plot is the map on a full grading report: an outline of the stone with symbols on it. Each symbol shows the type, position and approximate size of a clarity characteristic.
- Inscription: An inscription is text that a laser writes on the girdle of a stone, too small to see without magnification. Most often it is the report number.
- Key to symbols: The key to symbols is the list beside the clarity plot. It names the kinds of clarity characteristic on that plot.
- HPHT: HPHT stands for high pressure, high temperature. The same conditions can grow a diamond in a laboratory or treat a natural one to change its color.
