Comments is the report section for identifying characteristics or features that have no other line on the report. It is also where the lab describes a treatment that it detected.
In more detail
GIA discloses both color and clarity treatments in Comments. If the color grade carries an asterisk, Comments explains it. GIA can also mention characteristics there that it didn't plot.
On a grading report
Near the bottom of the report. At IGI, Comments notes the LG inscription on a lab-grown stone and permanent treatments. It can also give the growth method on request and the "Ideal" comment on a qualifying round.

- Asterisk after the color grade: An asterisk (*) after a GIA color grade means that the lab detected a color treatment. Comments explains what it is.
- Laser drilling: Laser drilling is a clarity treatment that bores a tiny channel to an inclusion, usually a dark one. The laser then burns the inclusion away, or a bleaching agent enters through the channel.
- HPHT: HPHT stands for high pressure, high temperature. The same conditions can grow a diamond in a laboratory or treat a natural one to change its color.
- Ideal cut: "Ideal cut" has three meanings: an IGI comment, a GIA supplement grade, or a sales word. At IGI it marks an Excellent round with narrower proportions; at GIA it appears only as "AGS Ideal".
- Inscription: An inscription is text that a laser writes on the girdle of a stone, too small to see without magnification. Most often it is the report number.
