An appraisal is a statement of what a stone or a piece of jewelry is worth. A diamond grading report is not an appraisal.
In more detail
A grading report says what the stone is and how it grades. It gives no price. People often call a grading report a "certificate" and expect a value on it. A lab such as GIA, which doesn't buy or sell diamonds, gives none.
