# How a cut grade is set

Lesson quiz · five questions, in a new order every time

Five questions on lesson 7 of The four Cs. The questions and the answers to pick from come in a new order every time you start.

Pick an answer, and the question marks itself. For a question that you answer in your own words, think of your answer first. Then show our answer and say whether you had it. Nothing is saved or sent.

1. Question 1: A diamond has Excellent proportions and Good symmetry. What is the best cut grade it can get?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: Good finish caps the cut grade at Very Good.
2. Question 2: What does "deductive" mean for a cut grade?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: One weak component pulls the whole grade down.
3. Question 3: Which of these is part of the design, not the face-up appearance?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: Weight ratio (and durability) are part of the design.
4. Question 4: In the tool, the T73 with a 41.6° pavilion grades Very Good, but 41.6° is inside the Excellent pavilion range. Why?
  ### Show our answer
The grade judges the proportions as a combination: that pavilion with that crown and table is outside the Excellent zone.
5. Question 5: You fix the angles of a stone, and it goes from Poor to Good, limited by symmetry Fair. What do you fix next, and what is the grade after that?
  ### Show our answer
Symmetry (and polish, which is Good). Then the grade goes up to the next limit, which in the rescue is the girdle and depth.
