# Cut: the C you see

Lesson quiz · five questions, in a new order every time

Five questions on lesson 6 of The four Cs. The questions and the answers to pick from come in a new order every time you start.

Pick an answer, and the question marks itself. For a question that you answer in your own words, think of your answer first. Then show our answer and say whether you had it. Nothing is saved or sent.

1. Question 1: A customer asks for "a pear cut". Do they mean cut or shape?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: "pear" is the outline; cut is how well the stone is proportioned and finished.
2. Question 2: What happens to light in a diamond with a pavilion that is too deep?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: Wrong pavilion angles let light leak, and it does not return through the crown.
3. Question 3: Do more facets make a diamond brighter?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: The proportions, polish and symmetry decide how much light returns.
4. Question 4: On the light map, what does black mean?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: Light that goes out through the pavilion and does not come back.
5. Question 5: Two 1.00 ct diamonds: one Excellent, one Poor. Which faces up larger, and why?
  ### Show our answer
The Excellent. The Poor one carries its weight in a deeper pavilion and a thicker girdle, so it is narrower (6.16 vs 6.48 mm).
