# The proportion diagram

Lesson quiz · five questions, in a new order every time

Five questions on lesson 7 of Reading a grading report. The questions and the answers to pick from come in a new order every time you start.

Pick an answer, and the question marks itself. For a question that you answer in your own words, think of your answer first. Then show our answer and say whether you had it. Nothing is saved or sent.

1. Question 1: On a GIA proportion diagram, how is the girdle described?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: E.g. "Thin to Medium", a percentage, and faceted, polished or bruted.
2. Question 2: Why can the cut grade be predicted from a report's numbers?
  ### Show our answer
GIA built its system so that stones with the same rounded proportions and descriptions get the same grade.
3. Question 3: A diagram shows a 4.5% girdle and a 63.6% total depth, with Excellent angles. What's the likely limit?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: Past the Excellent limit of 63.0%.
4. Question 4: How does IGI measure the proportions it reports?
  ### Show our answer
IGI measures the stone with a 3D scan, prints the key measurements and can include a graphic of the proportions. The parameters it grades are the same kind (table, crown, pavilion, girdle, depth).
5. Question 5: You rebuild a stone in the tool and get Very Good, limited by total depth and culet. What do you need to change?
  ### Show our answer
Both: thin the girdle to bring the depth down, and get the culet to Small or less.
