# The grades: color, clarity, cut

Lesson quiz · five questions, in a new order every time

Five questions on lesson 3 of Reading a grading report. The questions and the answers to pick from come in a new order every time you start.

Pick an answer, and the question marks itself. For a question that you answer in your own words, think of your answer first. Then show our answer and say whether you had it. Nothing is saved or sent.

1. Question 1: What does "H\*" mean on a GIA report?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: The asterisk flags a color treatment; Comments says which.
2. Question 2: Which of these can have a GIA cut grade?
  ### Show the answer
**a**: Standard round brilliants in the D-to-Z range only.
3. Question 3: A cushion's report shows "Cut: Excellent". Which lab could have issued it?
  ### Show our answer
IGI, which grades fancy-shape cut as an option; GIA doesn't.
4. Question 4: What can a visible fish-eye do to an IGI round's cut grade?
  ### Show our answer
  Cap it at Fair.
5. Question 5: Why is a missing cut grade on a pear-shaped diamond's GIA report not a problem?
  ### Show our answer
GIA doesn't grade the cut of fancy shapes at all, so no pear has one.
