# The girdle

Lesson quiz · five questions, in a new order every time

Five questions on lesson 7 of Anatomy of a diamond. The questions and the answers to pick from come in a new order every time you start.

Pick an answer, and the question marks itself. For a question that you answer in your own words, think of your answer first. Then show our answer and say whether you had it. Nothing is saved or sent.

1. Question 1: Where on the girdle is its thickness judged?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: At the 16 valleys, where the half facets come closest.
2. Question 2: A report says "Very Thin to Thick". What does that tell you?
  ### Show the answer
**a**: The range from the thinnest to the thickest valley.
3. Question 3: Why is an extremely thin girdle a problem?
  ### Show the answer
**b**: A durability risk; a knife-edge counts as Extremely Thin.
4. Question 4: You make the T73's girdle 4.0% thick and it drops to Very Good. What limits it?
  ### Show our answer
The total depth: 63.1%, just past the Excellent limit of 63.0%.
5. Question 5: At the same width, why does the T73 weigh about 10% more than the T57?
  ### Show our answer
Its girdle band adds diamond around the middle: same angles, more depth, more weight.
