# Oval cut

Also called oval, oval brilliant

An oval cut is an elongated round: the brilliant facet plan stretched along one axis.

## In more detail

It faces up larger than a round of the same weight. Ovals can show a bow-tie across the belly. GIA's oval guide says that many people prefer a length-to-width ratio of 1.30 to 1.50. Some oval designs qualify for the AGS Ideal Report by GIA.

## On a grading report

No GIA cut grade; measurements as length × width × depth.
