# Faceting diagram

Also called cutting diagram

A faceting diagram is a printable drawing of a faceting design. A faceter prints it, fits the gear and cuts the stone tier by tier.

## In more detail

It shows the same design as the .asc file, on paper. You need no design software to read it.

## How we measure it

Our cutting files include a faceting diagram as an .html file. It opens in any web browser, and you can print it or save it as a PDF.

- [Cutting file](https://digitalgemology.com/learn/glossary/cutting-file): A cutting file is a faceting design: every facet's angle and index, in cutting order, for a faceting machine. It tells a faceter how to cut the stone.
- [Tier table](https://digitalgemology.com/learn/glossary/tier-table): A tier table lists the angle, index positions and cutting order of every tier in a faceting design. Ours comes as a .csv file that opens in any spreadsheet.
