# Cushion cut

Also called cushion, cushion brilliant

A cushion cut is a square outline with rounded corners and a brilliant facet plan. It developed from the old mine cut.

## In more detail

Before mechanical bruting, nobody could make a diamond truly round, so early brilliants were cushions. Whether a cushion shows a bow-tie depends on its facet design, so published lists disagree.

## On a grading report

No GIA cut grade.
