# Belly

Also called wings

The belly is the wide middle of an elongated stone such as an oval, pear or marquise.

## In more detail

A bow-tie shows as a dark band across the belly. The belly facets start close to the center, so they must slope more steeply than the facets toward the ends. Their angles decide whether a band of leakage forms.
