# DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows Moissanite: fire far above the diamond version, with a touch more light than the T73

Brilliance 88 · Fire 97 · Scintillation 83 · in our census, where the T73 scores 86 · 97 · 80 in moissanite

A T73 with eight hairline facets polished onto its pavilion. The split hearts they draw belong to diamond; in moissanite this round measures close to a plain T73, with fire well above its diamond twin's.

Rendered in our 3D Gemstone Simulator from the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows model, 1.00 ct, studio light.

## DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows Moissanite

The T73's proportions stay as they are: table 53.0%, crown 34.5°, pavilion mains 40.75°. Each ridge where two lower girdle halves meet between the mains gets one narrow extra facet, which brings the count to 81. On a stone 6.5 mm across those additions are about a tenth of a millimetre wide.

The cut was drawn for diamond. In our simulated Hearts and Arrows viewer a diamond shows its eight hearts each split down the middle by a thin line, while in moissanite no hearts form for the line to split. What this page can measure is light.

Set against the T73 in moissanite, the numbers barely move: Brilliance 88 against 86, Fire 97 against 97, Tilt 92 against 94, and 7% leakage against 7%. Set against the same model in diamond, it gains fire and gives up light.

## Is moissanite a sensible stone for DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows? Pros and cons

Compared with the T73 Round Brilliant in moissanite and with the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond. A difference counts from 3 points (Brilliance, Fire, Tilt, Leakage), 5 (Scintillation, Symmetry), 4% (face-up size per carat) or 5% (weight); Tilt counts as a pro only for a stone within 5 points of the brilliance it is compared with. ## What moissanite gets from this cut

### Fire far above the diamond version

**Fire 97** against 78 for the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond: 19 points higher

The model and the lighting stay fixed between the two renders and the material alone changes, taking fire from 78 to 97. The moissanite render carries a few broad bands of blue, yellow and red around the table, where the diamond one shows small scattered sparks.

Look at the coloured flashes: those are fire. Same light, same size, same face-up angle; rendered by our 3D Gemstone Simulator from each cut's own model.

### Lighter than the diamond version

**0.92 ct** at 6.5 mm, against 1.01 ct for the same cut in diamond (−9%)

The facet plan has no say in this figure; density does. At a specific gravity of 3.22 against diamond's 3.52, the moissanite stone is the lighter at every size.

## Where the diamond version does better

### Less light than the diamond version

**Brilliance 88** against 94 for the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond: 6 points lower

These are the T73's angles, worked out for diamond. Moissanite bends light more strongly, and through them some of it leaves away from the eye. In the head-on maps the moissanite stone shows grey patches in a ring part-way out from the table and a few at the edge; the diamond's grey is mostly small notches at the girdle, with a few specks further in.

DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in moissanite · Brilliance 88

DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond · Brilliance 94

Red, green and blue = light returning to the eye; grey = light leaving through the pavilion. This is the head-on view; the Brilliance score averages a wider cone of light, so the score can differ from what one picture shows.

**What helps:** Steepening is not what our numbers suggest: the mains, at 40.75°, already clear the 39.5° minimum we use as a guide for moissanite rounds. For more light, choose a cut drawn for this stone: [DG-Anteros Moissanite](https://digitalgemology.com/gemstones/moissanite/dg-anteros) returns 92 and [DG-M5 Moissanite](https://digitalgemology.com/gemstones/moissanite/dg-m5) 98.

### More light lost than in diamond

**Leakage 7** against 2 for the DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows in diamond: 5 points higher

In our census 7% of the light leaves through the back in moissanite and 2% in diamond. Both strips hold least grey at 10° and most at 30°. The gap between them is widest at 0° and all but closes from 20° on.

Each frame is the Light Return map with the stone tilted away from you by the angle shown; grey is light leaving through the pavilion. The share under each frame is that picture's own.

**What helps:** A larger or smaller stone loses the same share. Of our rounds in moissanite, DG-Anteros leaks 3%, DG-M5 1% and the [T105 Round Brilliant Moissanite](https://digitalgemology.com/gemstones/moissanite/t105-round-brilliant) 6%.

## Who should cut it in moissanite

In moissanite this is close to a T73, with a slightly higher light score and eight more facets to cut: choose it if you want the same plan in moissanite as in a diamond of this design.

The broken hearts need diamond, so for that pattern see [DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows Diamond](https://digitalgemology.com/gemstones/diamond/dg-broken-hearts-and-arrows).

For a round drawn for this stone, [DG-Anteros Moissanite](https://digitalgemology.com/gemstones/moissanite/dg-anteros) re-solves the T73's angles, and the site's cut copy describes it forming eight clean hearts in moissanite. [DG-M5 Moissanite](https://digitalgemology.com/gemstones/moissanite/dg-m5) returns the most light we measure here.

## DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows Moissanite: questions

### Does a broken hearts and arrows pattern show in moissanite?

No. In our simulated viewer the hearts form only in diamond, so a moissanite stone in this cut has none for the crack facets to split.

### Is DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows better than a T73 in moissanite?

On light, by a small margin: 88 against 86. Fire is level at 97, and tilt is 92 against 94. Scintillation, which counts facets and not their size, reads 83 against 80, a gap too small for us to list as a pro.

### How are the crack facets cut?

Last, on a finished T73 pavilion, one on each of the eight ridges between pairs of lower girdle halves, on a 96 index gear. Against the plain T73 in moissanite they move light, fire and tilt by about two points or less.

### What does a 6.5 mm DG-Broken Hearts and Arrows moissanite weigh?

0.92 ct. The diamond version of that width weighs 1.01 ct.
