# Connect your AI

Three MCP servers · free, no key, no sign-in

Connect your AI assistant to Digital Gemology and ask it about gem cuts, gem identification and gemology. It answers from our measurements and lessons, and links to the page it used. The three servers are free and read-only. They need no key and no sign-in.

## The three servers

Add one, two or all three. Each is a remote MCP server (Model Context Protocol) over Streamable HTTP.

- **Cut library** `https://digitalgemology.com/mcp` 45 gem cuts, their brilliance, fire and scintillation in seven gemstones, and the 3D and cutting files. Ask it: “Which cut gives a moissanite the most fire?”
- **Gem identification** `https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems` Refractive index, birefringence, specific gravity, pleochroism and spectrum of seven gemstones. Ask it: “My stone reads 1.762 to 1.770 on the refractometer. What can it be?”
- **Gemology lessons** `https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn` 53 lessons: the four Cs, diamond anatomy, grading reports, diamond and moissanite, historic cuts. Ask it: “Explain the critical angle of a diamond, with a link to the lesson.”

## Chat apps

Add a server once in the app's settings. Then switch it on in a chat.

### Claude claude.ai, desktop and mobile apps

1. Open **Customize** > **Connectors**.
2. Click **+ Add** > **Add custom connector**.

## Coding tools

One command or one config file. The snippets add all three servers.

### Claude Code

1. Run these three commands in a terminal:

```
claude mcp add --transport http digital-gemology https://digitalgemology.com/mcp
claude mcp add --transport http digital-gemology-gems https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems
claude mcp add --transport http digital-gemology-learn https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn
```

Add `-s user` to use them in every project.

[Claude Code guide](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/mcp)

### OpenAI Codex CLI, IDE extension and ChatGPT desktop app

1. Add this to `~/.codex/config.toml`:

```
[mcp_servers.digital-gemology]
url = "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp"
[mcp_servers.digital-gemology-gems]
url = "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems"
[mcp_servers.digital-gemology-learn]
url = "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn"
```

In the IDE extension you can also use the gear menu > **MCP servers** > **Add server**, type **Streamable HTTP**, then **Restart extension**.

[OpenAI Codex guide](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/extend/mcp)

### Cursor

1. Add this to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (one project):

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "digital-gemology": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp" },
    "digital-gemology-gems": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems" },
    "digital-gemology-learn": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn" }
  }
}
```

[Cursor guide](https://cursor.com/docs/context/mcp)

### VS Code with GitHub Copilot

1. Open the Command Palette and run **MCP: Add Server** > **HTTP**.
2. Paste `https://digitalgemology.com/mcp` and type `digital-gemology` as the server ID.
3. Choose **Global** > **Copilot Global** and accept the trust prompt.

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "digital-gemology": { "type": "http", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp" },
    "digital-gemology-gems": { "type": "http", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems" },
    "digital-gemology-learn": { "type": "http", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn" }
  }
}
```

Or paste all three into `~/.copilot/mcp-config.json`, as above. The older `.vscode/mcp.json` file uses `"servers"` in place of `"mcpServers"`. On Copilot Business and Enterprise, an admin must switch on the **MCP servers in Copilot** policy.

[VS Code with GitHub Copilot guide](https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/copilot/customization/mcp-servers)

### Devin Desktop formerly Windsurf

1. Run these three commands in a terminal:

```
devin mcp add digital-gemology --url https://digitalgemology.com/mcp
devin mcp add digital-gemology-gems --url https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems
devin mcp add digital-gemology-learn --url https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn
```

Add `-s user` to use them in every project. Devin asks before each tool call.

[Devin Desktop guide](https://docs.devin.ai/cli/extensibility/mcp/configuration)

### Zed

1. Open **Settings** > **AI** > **MCP Servers** > **Add Server** > **Add Remote Server**, or add this to `settings.json`:

```
"context_servers": {
  "digital-gemology": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp" },
  "digital-gemology-gems": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems" },
  "digital-gemology-learn": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn" }
}
```

[Zed guide](https://zed.dev/docs/ai/mcp)

### JetBrains AI Assistant and Junie

1. Open **Settings** > **Tools** > **AI Assistant** > **Model Context Protocol (MCP)** > **Add**.
2. Choose **HTTP**, paste this JSON, then click **OK** and **Apply**:

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "digital-gemology": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp" },
    "digital-gemology-gems": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems" },
    "digital-gemology-learn": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn" }
  }
}
```

For Junie, put the same JSON in `~/.junie/mcp/mcp.json`.

[JetBrains AI Assistant and Junie guide](https://www.jetbrains.com/help/ai-assistant/mcp.html)

### Antigravity and Gemini CLI

1. In Antigravity, add this to `~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json` (or type `/mcp` in the CLI):

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "digital-gemology": { "serverUrl": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp" },
    "digital-gemology-gems": { "serverUrl": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems" },
    "digital-gemology-learn": { "serverUrl": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn" }
  }
}
```

Gemini CLI (for Gemini Code Assist plans): `gemini mcp add --transport http digital-gemology https://digitalgemology.com/mcp`. In Gemini CLI's `settings.json`, use `"httpUrl"`.

[Antigravity and Gemini CLI guide](https://antigravity.google/docs/mcp)

## Models on your computer

The servers are on the web, so the computer must be online.

### LM Studio version 0.3.17 or later

1. Open the **Program** tab in the right sidebar > **Install** > **Edit mcp.json**.
2. Add the three servers:

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "digital-gemology": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp" },
    "digital-gemology-gems": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems" },
    "digital-gemology-learn": { "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn" }
  }
}
```

Use a model that is good at tool calls.

[LM Studio guide](https://lmstudio.ai/docs/app/mcp)

### Ollama, with Open WebUI Open WebUI 0.6.31 or later

1. Ollama has no MCP client of its own. In Open WebUI, as an admin, open **Settings** > **Admin** > **Integrations**.
2. Under **External Tool Servers**, click **+ Add Connection**.
3. Set **Type** to **MCP (Streamable HTTP)**, not OpenAPI.
4. Paste `https://digitalgemology.com/mcp`, set **Auth** to **None** and click **Save**.
5. In a chat, open **+** > **Integrations** > **Tools** and switch it on.

Repeat for `https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems` and `https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn` to add the other two servers.

[Ollama, with Open WebUI guide](https://docs.openwebui.com/features/extensibility/mcp/)

## Developers

Call the servers from your own code. Each API connects to them for you.

### Claude API MCP connector, beta

1. Send the MCP connector beta header (see the guide for the current one) and add to the request:

```
"mcp_servers": [
  { "type": "url", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp", "name": "digital-gemology" },
  { "type": "url", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems", "name": "digital-gemology-gems" },
  { "type": "url", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn", "name": "digital-gemology-learn" }
],
"tools": [
  { "type": "mcp_toolset", "mcp_server_name": "digital-gemology" },
  { "type": "mcp_toolset", "mcp_server_name": "digital-gemology-gems" },
  { "type": "mcp_toolset", "mcp_server_name": "digital-gemology-learn" }
]
```

No `authorization_token` is needed.

[Claude API guide](https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/agents-and-tools/mcp-connector)

### OpenAI Responses API

1. Add the servers to `tools`:

```
"tools": [
  { "type": "mcp", "server_label": "digital_gemology", "server_url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp", "require_approval": "never" },
  { "type": "mcp", "server_label": "digital_gemology_gems", "server_url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems", "require_approval": "never" },
  { "type": "mcp", "server_label": "digital_gemology_learn", "server_url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn", "require_approval": "never" }
]
```

Our tools only read, so `"never"` is safe. Without it, each call waits for approval.

[OpenAI Responses API guide](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/tools-connectors-mcp)

### Gemini API Interactions API

1. Add the servers to `tools`. Names cannot contain a hyphen:

```
"tools": [
  { "type": "mcp_server", "name": "digital_gemology", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp" },
  { "type": "mcp_server", "name": "digital_gemology_gems", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/gems" },
  { "type": "mcp_server", "name": "digital_gemology_learn", "url": "https://digitalgemology.com/mcp/learn" }
]
```

[Gemini API guide](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/interactions/function-calling)

## If it does not work

- Copy the address exactly, with no space and no slash at the end.
- Start a new chat after you add a server, and make sure the server is switched on for that chat.
- At work or school, an administrator may have to allow custom connectors first.
- Tell the assistant which server to use, for example “Use Digital Gemology lessons to …”.

Steps checked against each app’s documentation in November 2026. Apps change their menus often: if a step no longer matches, [tell us](https://digitalgemology.com/contact). For every tool and endpoint, see [AI agents and the API](https://digitalgemology.com/about/agents).
